What CTR tells a B2B team
CTR describes how often an observed result earns a click. In organic search, it helps you examine the connection between the query, the result’s appearance, and the promise made to the buyer. It does not describe what the visitor does after arriving.
Segment the measure by relevant query, page, device, and period. An overall rate can change because the mix of impressions changes, even when an individual page performs consistently.
How to calculate CTR
CTR = clicks ÷ impressions × 100. If a result receives 120 clicks from 4,000 impressions, its CTR is 3%. Use clicks and impressions from the same reporting system, scope, and time period.
The result’s position, intent, brand familiarity, and surrounding search features can affect the rate. A CTR difference is a reason to investigate; it is not proof that the title alone caused the change.
A B2B example
A consultancy receives impressions for a specialist service query but few clicks. Its title describes a broad category instead of the specific audience served. The team revises the result’s promise to reflect the real page, then reviews comparable query data and resulting lead quality.
CTR and conversion
A more enticing result can increase clicks while attracting people the business cannot help. Review qualified enquiries and destination-page behavior alongside CTR. The best result sets an accurate expectation and reaches relevant buyers.
For AI search, use a CTR calculation only when the reporting system supplies a meaningful impression and click denominator. A sampled citation count is not interchangeable with impressions.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good B2B search CTR?
There is no universal benchmark. Compare relevant queries and similar positions, devices, and periods before deciding whether the rate needs attention.
Is CTR the same as conversion rate?
No. CTR measures clicks from impressions. Conversion rate measures a defined action among eligible visits or people.
